How To Choose An Aspiring Career Path After Class 10

Not sure what to do after Class 10?
Here's how you can choose a Career Path best for YOU

The Final Year of high school is probably one of the most crucial phases in a student's life. It is when you need to decide what career you want to pursue. More often students end up choosing a career or subject which is not of their interest at all. As a result, they end up being unsuccessful. Here is how you can avoid the most common mistakes made by the youth and brighten up your future by doing what you love the most for the rest of your life.

Subjective Approach

One of the greatest conceptions of Indian parents is if their child is good at studies, make them a Doctor or an Engineer. A person studying science is considered elite in our society; likewise, one who is studying commerce or arts is considered inferior. But we need to understand it is not the beginning but the end which defines a person. Imagine a successful person; do you judge him by the choice of the subject he studied? The answer is NO. Everyone is judged by what he or she has finally accomplished in his or her life. Trust me when I say that you can only succeed in life if do something of your interest.

The first step in this process should be analyzing what you are good at. It may be a subject, sports, management, any art, or any extracurricular activity. If you are good at studies you can start by assessing which is your most scoring subject. Look for a subject in which you are naturally interested. Something which you like studying without being forced.

The second step to this subjective approach is to research about your favorite subject. The fascinating world of the internet nowadays can provide every information you need. Start by searching the courses available after high school for Graduation. Extend your research by knowing how far you can study the particular subject and what profession you will be at. Now analyze the profession according to your interests. Would you enjoy doing that for the rest of your life? If yes, take it as a green flag.

Now, repeat the process with other subjects. You must have multiple options to consider before you choose anyone.  Because sometimes we may have a temporary interest. It might be possible that we lose interest in some profession after a few months or a year. So you better keep multiple options, go through them again and again, take your time, and consider the colleges which provide the courses. And finally, select ONE that suits you the best.

Now, what if you are not that good at studies, OR you have some other interest?

How to explore your interest?

Participate in Extracurriculars

Every student has unique talents and interests. To recognize your talent and examine your capabilities, participate in extracurricular activities. This is the best way you can explore yourself during your school life. Don't hesitate to participate in any activity. Grab every opportunity you get to do new stuff. This is how you can learn what you are good at and what might be the best choice for your career.

Extracurricular activities include dancing, singing, creative writing, essay competition, painting, management, organizing programs festivals, designing, sports, quizzes, speech, debate, and many more. Every skill or talent you have can be used as a career opportunity. You will be making money by doing what you love. What else would you want with your life?

Everything you are good at is a Potential Career path

With every skill you acquire, with every hobby you have, you can potentially earn money. The world today is full of opportunities. And due to the advancements in IT, opportunities can be easily found on the Internet. All you need is some intent and perseverance.

One of the best things that happened in recent years is that the value of a Degree has decreased. If you are good at something, you can succeed, even without having a degree.

Choose what you will never be bored of

An important thing to consider at this stage is that some interests are temporary. This must-have happened to you at least once in your life, that you think you like doing something, and when you start doing it repeatedly, you lose interest in that. This is common human behavior, so you should never make your career choice in a hurry. Take your time, analyze your options, and consider what you are good at, and what you will never be bored of. The best way to tackle this is by thinking about what you enjoy doing every time you do it.

Don't depend JUST on the System

So, you have made up your mind, you know the fields you are good at. What Now?

All this was the easy part. Now comes the hard one. Now you need to get out of the system. If you are good at anything, start doing something about it. Don't just depend on the school or the college system. Don't expect that just by completing the daily tasks of the school or college you would be successful. To start the journey, you must put in some effort.

What can you do? Do research on your field, invest in yourself- investing in yourself means you must start doing free or paid courses to enhance your skill and be better at your thing. You can also attend workshops, and meet with people already in that field. Most importantly, do Internships. If you are a college student, you should start doing internships right now; and if you are in high school, prepare yourself, and as soon as you get into the college do internships. Internships are easy to get, you will get to learn a lot, and you might even earn some amount if you do pay for internships.

Develop a Side Hobby

In the starting couple of years of college, you will have enough time for yourself. So after choosing what you are going to do for your academics, you should now plan a side hobby. Something you are interested in, something you love doing might be drawing, video editing, or any other hobby of yours. This will ensure that you have multiple career options and can pursue in which you get better opportunities. You can do a part-time job or internship in this particular field and improve your skill.

Some of the fields you can choose from are:-

  • Web Development
  • Content Writing
  • App Development
  • Painting
  • Sketching
  • Singing
  • Video Editing
  • Photo Editing
  • Audio Editing
  • Voice Over Artist

There are many more options available all around the internet.

NO profession is Inferior

Remember It is better to be a 1st Class Cobbler than to be a 3rd Class Engineer. You should do this one thing no matter how you start once you become a top-class in your field, you will become an elite member of the society. You will be respected even more than a  Doctor or an Engineer.

Just remember one thing - Choose what you love and become an expert in that.
